Jimmer Fredette Headlines USA Basketball 3x3 Roster For 2024 Paris Olympics

Former NBA player Jimmer Fredette has been named to the roster of the 3x3 team that will compete at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, as announced by USA Basketball.

Canyon Barry, the progeny of NBA Hall of Famer Rick Barry, Kareem Maddox, and Dylan Travis will accompany the 35-year-old Fredette to Paris.

3x3 basketball is played on a halfcourt with a 10-minute game clock and a 12-second shot clock, which significantly quickens the tempo compared to 5x5. The game continues until one team reaches 21 points in the lead when the final buzzer rings.

There are no three-pointers; goals from inside the arc are worth one point, and those from behind the arc are worth two points. As a consequence, the employed approach and strategies diverge from those of conventional basketball.

This will be the first time since the sport's inception at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, when the U.S. men's 3x3 team failed to qualify, that the United States sends a team to the Olympics.

According to their second-ranked worldwide FIBA 3x3 global rankings, the men's and women's teams learned of their qualification in November 2023. This summer, the men's 3x3 team will try to match the women's Tokyo Olympics gold.

The four selected athletes represented the US as "Team Miami" in the 2023 FIBA men's 3x3 World Tour. They finished fifth with two wins and two top-three finishes. Fredette was thrilled when Team USA qualified for the men's competition in November.

Fredette, who was selected tenth overall in the 2011 NBA Draft, appeared in 241 games over the course of six seasons, primarily with the Kings and Pelicans. It is probable that basketball enthusiasts recall Fredette from his collegiate years, given his stellar performance at BYU.

He was voted national player of the year in 2011 and led BYU to the NCAA Tournament Elite 8. He averaged 28.9 points per game as a senior. After coaching the men's squad during the 2023 tour and being a member of squad USA's 3x3 program since 2012, Joe Lewandowski will coach them.

According to Lewandowski, "Representing your country at the Olympics is the highest honor." "I'm thrilled for these young people because of their dedication to 3x3 basketball. "USA Basketball's strict rules have started the race to the gold medal."

The men's pursuit of a gold medal in Paris will commence with a training program that runs concurrently with the NCAA men's Final Four, which takes place in Phoenix from April 3rd to the 7th.
